On Dengue Fever and More

I am happy to tell you anak that Ate Hazel has survived the Dengue virus and has been discharged home. She only had one unit of blood, then she was fine afterwards. Thank you for your prayers and please thank God for the help. However, there was apparently a child in the same hospital as her that didn't make it. The child was due to be sent home, but he/she probably bled and eventually was taken away. Kind of like what happened to you, right? We all thought that because you had all the bloods and the platelets that you needed and your platelet has gone up, you were going home the next day. You did go home though, but only to Jesus. But never mind.

Speaking of Dengue, my friend apparently heard from the news that cases of Dengue are rising in some Asian countries. This prompted me to go online and search for articles that I can read. There was not a lot of recent Dengue news in Asia really, but I found one about a six-year old girl who died from Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever just over a day ago in Maldives. This was their first Dengue case this year. And in Sri Lanka, the Dengue cases have already tripled in the first quarter of this year. I couldn't find any recent articles on Dengue per se in the Philippines. I feel bad because it seems like Dengue is not that important in our country anymore, knowing that a lot of lives have already been and are still being taken away by the deadly virus. I know we have gone past the outbreak. But the mere fact that children are still dying from it, people, especially from the government should continue to talk about it so the public will become more aware of the disease. Better yet, they should still do something about it.I could not even find any statistics from DOH (Philippines) website on how many dengue cases we had last year and what the mortality rate was. But according to philstar.com, 373 died from Dengue in 2011. Perhaps DOH don't publish those information. But maybe they should because I'm sure I am not the only one who would like to know. Or maybe, I am mistaken. Maybe the government is actually doing something about it. I just don't know. In which case, my apologies.

Few days ago, your Daddy and I were talking about research on possible vaccine for Dengue, or any tablets that one can take to be protected from it just like that of Malaria. How I really wish I was rich so I can fund a research project for it. Saying that, I just read an article on the internet that scientists from University of North Carolina may have actually just found the "Achilles Heel of Dengue Virus" (as described by Medical Xpress). So hopefully this is a start of something good so that we will somehow stop worrying about your Adings and other children out there who can possibly be infected by the virus.

Alright, time for another story. I phoned home at lunch time and I spoke to Ading Cxyrelle first. I think Ading Linus was teasing her as she kept saying " Si Kuya Lye talaga". Then I spoke to Inang. She said she misses you very much. You haven't visited her and she would like you to so she can kiss and hug you. She told me that she is always kissing your photo. Ading Cxyrelle at that time was changing into her pyjamas and she was probably looking at your photo. Because she asked, "Why is Kuya always wearing the same clothes? Maybe he should change". Inang had to remind her that she was looking at your photo and that your clothes won't change anymore. I somehow told my friend about this. And according to her, Ading Kika is actually seeing you, and not just your photo. She is lucky if this is true. When I call them next, I will ask Ading if she has actually seen you.

Well Pochongchong ko, do I have to tell you how much I am missing you? I wish you were here. I miss you loads and loads. I love you so so much.
